Religious people have a mission of faith and obedience to some prophets.
Everyone healthy has a strong set of life goals ... either to succeed in their life or to help the world or both, some people have a mission which is egoistic or tribal, to further those that they see as their kindred.
Religion is a substitute for this kind of need for purpose in life.
A mission of wisdom is an ultimate kind of mission, it is a mission of knowledge of the mind and of power of the actions and of decision. We naturally are happy with taking sanctuary with a family and living a happy modest life without particularly much of a mission, and that in itself becomes the mission.
Some of us have very high and lofty aspirations and only very medium achievements, but it is this aspiration that motivates people to act with a more or less large amount of energy to change the world in such a way as they think will complement their views of themselves, either as a compassionate or a self serving individual.
There are so many kinds of missions... mission to be the prettiest girl, to be the strongest boy, to be the most tattood face person who is cool and punky, to be the most intelligent, the richest, build the biggest house, make the most friends, save the most children, rob the most banks.. everyone has very many missions and they require alot of reflection.
